The final report from the second Summer School of Telecommunications Educational Seminars aimed at integrated optics held in Hotel pod Zamkem, Boskovice from 14th to 17th of October 2014.
The second Summer School of Telecommunications Educational Seminars supported by the project "Development of Excellence of the Telecommunication Research Team in Relation to International Cooperation - CZ.1.07/2.3.00/20.0217" was held for four days at the Hotel pod Zamkem.
During the first day of second Summer School there appeared four invited speakers with their interesting presentations. Opening lecture was given by Dr. Anirban Dhar from the Central Glass and Ceramic Research Institute, India. His presentation was named Optical Fiber: Materials, Fabrication Challenges and Applications and its aim was at fabrication possibilities and progression in the field of photonic fibers. The second lecture was presented by one of the most remarkable Czech scientist in the field of integrated optics, which is Prof. Jiri Ctyroky from the Institute of Photonics and Electronics of the ASCR, v.v.i. Prof. Ctyroky’s presentation was dealing with his main scientific interest that is modelling of integrated optics. Therefore, the title of his presentation was Integrated Photonic Devices: Modelling by Modal Methods. Next lecturer was Ing. Michael Pisarik from the SQS Vlaknova optika a.s. and his presentation had title Optical memory. This presentation interested attendees with possibilities of optical memories and their utilization in general. The fourth and last presentation of the first seminar day was given by Dr. Michal Lucki from the Czech Technical University in Prague. His lecture was entitled Convergence of Optical Systems with WDM. Presentation given by Dr. Lucki had overview character and was dealing with WDM systems, their measurement, convergence and solution of nonlinear effects.
The second day started with presentation named Integrated Structures for Optoelectronic Gigabit Systems that was prepared by Ass. Prof. Vitezslav Jerabek from the Czech Technical University in Prague. This attractive presentation was dealing with gigabit integrated structures for photonic communications. The next speaker was Prof. Dusan Pudis from University of Zilina, Slovakia, whose interesting presentation was named Photonic Crystals in Nature, Technologies and Applications. After him was presented second lecture by Ass. Prof. Vitezslav Jerabek named Research of Optical Polymer Planar Structures at FEE CTU in Prague. This presentation was devoted to scientific research and activities in the field of optical planar structures at his department. The last lecturer of the second day was Prof. Jarmila Mullerova from the University of Zilina, Slovakia. In her presentation entitled Advanced Material for Integrated Optics and their Diagnostics she talked about optical material utilization possibilities for solar cells.
During the third day had his first lecture Ass. prof. Alexander Argyros from the University of Sydney, Australia. This lecture was named Photonic crystal fibers and was aimed at history of photonic crystal fibers as well as on the current knowledge in this field. The following presentation was given by Prof. Marian Marciniak from the National Institute of Telecommunications, Poland. In his presentation named Novel materials and phenomena for integrated optics applications he presented new materials for integrated optics. Then Ass. Prof. Alexander Argyros profess his second lecture entitled Metal-polymer composite metamaterial fibers, where he introduced his latest scientific interest and obtained results. The last speaker of the third day was Dr. Jan Vanda from HiLASE with presentation named Development and applications of high energy pulsed solid state lasers.
In the last day of the second Summer School of Telecommunications Educational Seminar had his second lecture Prof. Marciniak. This talk was about his presentation entitled Advanced modelling of integrated optical structures - selected methods reviewed.
Thanks to all performed lectures the attendees had opportunity to take a closer look into the specific field of integrated optics, as well as photonic fibers, advanced materials for integrated optics, metal-polymer fibers or photonic communications.
